Preparing for a notary appointment
- Call or text first and describe the type of document and notarial act requested.
- Bring the complete document. Do not leave blanks that should be completed before notarization.
- Bring current identification acceptable under Texas law.
- Every required signer must appear as required and be willing and aware.
- Do not sign in advance when the notarial act requires signing in the notary's presence.
- Bring any witnesses required by the document; confirm in advance whether the office can provide witnesses.
The notary may decline when identity cannot be established, the signer is not present when required, the document is incomplete, the signer appears unwilling or unaware, or the requested act is not authorized.

Can the notary tell me which form I need?
No. A non-attorney notary cannot choose or prepare legal documents or provide legal advice. Ask the receiving organization or a licensed attorney.
Does notarization prove that a document is legally valid?
No. A notarization addresses a specific notarial act, such as acknowledging a signature or administering an oath. It does not guarantee the document's truth, legality or enforceability.
Can you guarantee a title transfer or benefit application will be approved?
No. We may provide administrative assistance when available, but the responsible government office, insurer or program determines requirements, eligibility and approval.
