Personal auto insurance guidance

Protection that fits the way you drive.

Whether you are insuring your first car, adding a new driver, replacing a vehicle or reviewing an upcoming renewal, Tran & Lee Insurance Agency can help you understand your options and request coverage that fits your needs.

Understanding auto insurance in Texas

Auto insurance can help protect you financially after an accident, theft or other covered loss. The right policy depends on more than the vehicle you drive. Your household drivers, coverage limits, deductibles, lender requirements and the way you use your vehicle can all affect the options available to you.

Our role is to help make those choices easier to understand. We review the information you provide, explain available coverage and help you compare options from insurance companies we represent. Coverage, pricing and eligibility vary by company and applicant.

Texas minimum liability coverage

30/60/25

Texas drivers must be able to pay for accidents they cause. Most people meet this financial-responsibility requirement by purchasing liability insurance with at least $30,000 for each injured person, up to $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident.

Minimum liability coverage pays for covered injuries or property damage you cause to other people, up to the policy limits. It does not pay to repair your own vehicle. Because a serious accident can cost more than the minimum limits, you may want to discuss whether higher limits are appropriate for your situation.

Coverage options to consider

Bodily Injury Liability

Helps pay covered medical expenses, lost wages and other damages when you are legally responsible for injuring someone in an accident.

Property Damage Liability

Helps pay to repair or replace another person's vehicle or property when you are responsible for the damage.

Collision Coverage

Helps pay to repair or replace your covered vehicle after a collision, subject to your deductible and the terms of the policy.

Comprehensive Coverage

Helps cover certain non-collision losses such as theft, vandalism, fire, hail, flooding or contact with an animal, subject to policy terms.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

Can help after a covered accident involving a driver who has no insurance or not enough insurance. It may also apply to certain hit-and-run losses.

Personal Injury Protection

PIP can help pay covered medical expenses, lost income and certain non-medical costs for you and your passengers after an accident.

Rental Reimbursement

May help with the cost of temporary transportation while your covered vehicle is being repaired after a covered loss.

Towing and Roadside Assistance

May help with covered towing, battery service, flat-tire assistance or other roadside needs, depending on the policy.

Important Texas coverage note: Insurance companies must offer Personal Injury Protection and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage with a Texas personal auto policy. If you do not want either coverage, it generally must be rejected in writing.

What does “full coverage” mean?

“Full coverage” is a commonly used phrase, but it is not one specific insurance coverage or a guarantee that every loss will be covered. People often use the term to describe a policy that combines liability, collision and comprehensive coverage. A lender or leasing company may require collision and comprehensive coverage while it has a financial interest in the vehicle.

Every policy has limits, deductibles, conditions and exclusions. We can help you review the actual coverage selections instead of relying only on the phrase “full coverage.”

What can affect an auto insurance quote?

Insurance companies use their own rating and eligibility guidelines. Depending on the company and policy, a quote may be affected by factors such as:

  • The drivers and vehicles in the household
  • Driving history and prior claims
  • Vehicle use, annual mileage and garaging location
  • Selected limits, deductibles and optional coverage
  • Prior insurance history
  • Available discounts and policy combinations

Price is important, but it should be reviewed together with coverage limits, deductibles, exclusions, company service and the protection the policy is intended to provide.

Frequently asked questions

What auto liability limits are required in Texas?

The current minimum limits are $30,000 for each injured person, up to $60,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident. These minimum limits are commonly described as 30/60/25.

Does Texas require collision and comprehensive coverage?

Texas law does not generally require collision or comprehensive coverage, but a lender or leasing company may require them. These coverages help protect your own vehicle against different types of covered damage.

When should I add a new driver or vehicle?

Contact the agency as soon as possible when a household member begins driving, a teen receives a license, or you buy, sell or replace a vehicle. Coverage does not automatically apply in every situation, so timely notice is important.

Can you compare more than one insurance company?

As an independent agency, Tran & Lee can review available options from multiple insurance companies we represent. The companies available for a particular applicant depend on eligibility, location, driving history and other underwriting factors.

What information is helpful for an auto quote?

It is helpful to have the names and dates of birth of household drivers, driver license information, vehicle year, make, model and VIN, current coverage information, garaging address and an estimate of annual mileage. Please use a secure method requested by our team when sending sensitive information.
